The Team
Raghavan Ranganathan completed his Bachelors from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and obtained his Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2016 for his research on atomistic origins for viscoelasticity in inorganic solids in Prof. Pawel Keblinski's group. From 2016 to March 2019, Raghavan was a Postdoctoral researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he worked with Prof. Gregory Rutledge on elucidating mechanisms of yield during deformation of semicrystalline polymers. Since July 2019, he is a faculty member in the department of Materials Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar. His research focuses on employing first principles simulations, molecular modeling and machine learning techniques in elucidating structure-property relations and design of materials. He has experience in modeling properties such as mechanical, vibrational, thermal, mass transport and chemical reactivity, in a host of materials. He also serves as as a reviewer for several journals and is passionate about teaching, having completed an advanced teacher training course at MIT. He enjoys cooking, Indian classical music and playing chess.
